This embroidered sweatshirt above is my favourite thing. A nod to my surroundings. A love song to my new canoe.
This was my first time doing embroidered shirts, and I'm hooked. They look really, really nice.

I recently started working with The Globe and Mail - specifically their reader submitted essay column Facts & Arguments. Very happy to be working with these guys.
I've already seen improvement in my work by doing these. I tend to draw things I see in real life. I take tons of photos. I'm most inspired by places around me and the feelings of those places, and I don't really consider myself very visually clever or conceptual. But these pieces have been a really great opportunity to get better at creating worlds and feelings that are outside of my own experience.
Back at the beginning of 2016 I designed a bunch of patterns for The Drake General Store. They picked their faves and made a whole line of canvas bags with them. They're all reasonably priced and available now in stores and on their website.
Here's my fave from the collection: the weekender duffle! Such a great shape.
It's interesting to design surface patterns without knowing their application, but when you design with other people you trust their instincts, just as they trust yours. That's the beauty of collaboration. Above is the blob print. Blob is a pleasing word to say.
I've worked with The Drake General Store from the very beginning. From Deadweight (my first maker label), to Falconwright (a 4 year leather bag partnership), to Tough Luck (my current line of stationery). It's nice to be supported by such a great Canadian company.
